Travel Tuesday question of the week – What is your favorite holiday to travel?
With Labor Day approaching for those of us in the US, it is the last big summer holiday for traveling. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. While many people love to celebrate the holidays, traveling during the holidays can be busy and stressful. Do you like traveling during the holidays? Do you plan to visit family or go on vacation? What is your favorite holiday to travel?
Honestly, I hate flying during the holidays. I normally fly a few days before and a few days after to avoid craziness at the airport. My favorite time of year is the Fall and without a doubt it is the time of the year I love traveling the most. During the Fall, I have been to Hawaii, Spain and Portugal, Eastern Europe, Paris, various US cities, and Tahoe. I love the weather, fewer crowds, and the changing of the seasons.
Locally, my favorite trips during the Fall would be to Apple Hill and Lake Tahoe. During the holidays, I flew to Paris for Thanksgiving in 2005 and spent time in South Carolina last year watching my South Carolina Gamecocks thrash the Clemson Tigers 34-17. My favorite holiday of the year is Thanksgiving because of the weather and great memories I have. So naturally, I love to travel during Thanksgiving right?
Well, no. I love Thanksgiving but don’t like traveling during that time. I loved our trip to Paris and I love the Fall. If I had to choose a holiday, it would be Thanksgiving. However, even though this isn’t a holiday, it is to me – my anniversary. In three weeks, I will celebrate my 5th anniversary and nearly every year we have gone somewhere – either Paris, Tahoe, or Hawaii. I doubt we will make it somewhere this year but with the Fall weather and the special occasion, it’s my favorite ‘holiday’ of the year (And if I have to pick a real one, I choose Thanksgiving).
What is your favorite holiday to travel and why?
I know! I’m working at office now, so only holiday I can get is like everybody else.
Last few times, super early in the morning at the airport, and still! Soooooooo many people are there. Took ages to get my ticket. That was just too annoying.
Usually I love going to airport and waiting in the line. It gives me time ans pace for looking through my travel information materials. But with that many people, too many rude people, and too loud and everything.
Non-holiday is the best, sadly I can’t get one now hehe
