Travel Tuesday question of the week – what is the top destination on your bucket list?

This is a question I haven’t thought about until recently.  Most of my trips lately have been locally with a couple back east to see my family.  However, now is the time I am ready to explore.

For many people, this is something they get to do quite often.  For me, I used to travel all the time.  Now I am a little more selective with my trips with little ones at home.  I can’t wait to take that next big trip to share my love of travel with my kids.

Just recently, my son was sitting in my lap while I had my Twitter page up.  My background consists of tiled photos I took of the Eiffel Tower.  In his 2 year old voice, he points to my computer and asks “what is dat?”  As he points to each picture, I tell him that it is the Eiffel Tower in Paris.  I ask him if he wants to go see it, and receive and enthusiastic “Yeah!”

A few days later, I show it to him again and send him off to tell mommy that he wants to see the Eiffel Tower.   She tells me he has been walking around the house for three days saying “Eiffel Tower” leaving her to wonder where he learned that.  For my bucket list, I am getting everyone excited.

As for the destinations on my list, this has been a work in progress.  While this may sound weird, my top three for North America are Vancouver, Montreal, and Montana.  None of them have anything in common but it’s a love for an intriguing city in the Pacific Northwest in Canada, French culture and language, and the outdoors and open spaces that have me intrigued.

As for the rest of the world, my top 3 are England, Scotland, and Wales.  After reading about these three countries and with my love for the English Premier League and quirky British TV shows, they are at the top of my bucket list for where I want to go to next.  And while it isn’t the Eiffel Tower, it’s a great way to introduce my kids to the world next door.

With great memories of your past trips, where do you look next?  What’s on your list?

Jim, I’ve been to 34 states and 18 countries. Oddly, all the ones I have visited are nothing like my culture nor do any speak the same language as me (well except for Canada). My ancestors are from England and I just recently learned that. I’ve been to many far away and interesting places and would like to learn about places that mean a little more to me personally. Plus, I think of my family and how that would be a good introduction to foreign travel without too much of a culture shock.

I have my reasons for choosing the countries I did.
