I swear you would think in a down economy people would be lowering prices, but the reverse seems to be happening. I just spent twice as much than I have ever spent getting tickets back home... to Michigan... Who is going to Michigan as a travel destination? Anyway, I could rant all day. It's nice to see you are also thinking about this, in a way. Whatever happened to reducing prices to increase demand and businesses end up making more money in the long run anyway? I'm starting a rtw trip this summer, and I'm at the point where every penny counts. I was surprised to find a lot of online travel tools, which I had never used before. For instance, Yapta.com is nice because you can track flights and receive an email when fares drop. Itsasoftware.com is clunky, but it shows every flight option to help travelers make more informed decisions. AirTreks.com has a trip planner that was extremely useful in budgeting for all my complicated flights. Like you mentioned, Bing Travel was a good one too. All in all, I think it's easier than ever for budget travelers to find deals and book a fantastic trip.
